In 2010, we recognised a major gap in Australia’s construction industry: generic OH&S consultants who didn’t understand the realities of live construction sites. Advisors from manufacturing or warehouse backgrounds were applying theoretical safety frameworks that simply didn’t translate to environments with tower cranes operating in high winds, multiple subcontractors working simultaneously, or fast-tracked programs under Tier 1 pressure.
To solve this, we built a consultancy staffed exclusively by former site managers with 15–20 years of real construction experience—people who’ve held the roles our clients hold, faced the same pressures, and walked the same sites. Starting in Victoria, we quickly earned the trust of leading developers. CBUS Property engaged us on Collins Arch, ISPT brought us onto 555 Collins Street, and Host Plus and Charter Hall developed long-term partnerships across multiple projects.
These clients valued that we understood not just safety regulations, but their business. As word spread—“Elliott Safety gets it; they’re construction people”—we expanded nationally into Sydney and Perth while maintaining our construction-only focus.
